When shorting seems so much more consistent?
Any comments?

Have a stock gap up while short because of a buyout that occurs on the weekend....very painful. Sky is the limit for a stock.

I'm not buying it. I've backtested many, and shorting 8-12 stocks for safety, far outways going long.
3-8 $$ range marketcap under 100m...beautiful.
I think you may all work for SF AND ARE CONSPIRING, hence no talk about shorting or quickly sidestep shorting filters...

Most investors don't even know what "shorting" is,so they trade on the "long side".More consistent? In who's opinion? You either have to be in a down trending market, have inside information,or really know what you're doing to make any money,on a consistent basis, shorting stocks. All you have to do is get caught in a "short squeeze" one time,to get the taste of what risk is all about. It could get real ugly.Remember, your on "margin" when you short.Worst case scenario, you could possibly have your account wiped out in one bad trade gone wrong...

I think you need to delve into the previous forum posts on this before making this type of statement. There have been numerous filters written for shorting stocks.

That's why you hold a basket of shorts so when the 1 or 2 go wrong it won't crush you. I may post my holdings soon.

I trade options, so the concept of long or short is irrelevant. Point being if you are polarized on being long or short, you are missing out on a lot of trading opportunities to make money.
Stocks go up, down and sideways. If you short only you limit yourself to 1 of 3 trends. So does it make sense to you to only be net short?
There are many trading ideas in the forum. A system is just that, a system. With any system there are criteria and rules surround it. Don't be skeptical of someones work because it is long only. It is the way the system was designed. I.e., don't use a hammer as a screw driver.
For instance, Kevin has done some good work for a long only system for 401k plans. Some of the rules with 401ks are you can only be long a position and no levered ETFs. So if you are looking for a short system, then why even consider this work? Kevin's work is correlated to Mebane Faber's work for using ROC with non-correlated assets. Guess what, this is a very good system for a 401k account. You make money when the market is bullish, you can make money when the market is bearish. And if you know anything about options, you can make money in a sideways market.
