In 'chart settings' there is an option in 'add a column' called "Average Day Range". Can anyone explain what this is and how it is used?

Hi,

The "day range" and the "average day range" are fairly simple measures that find the difference between the high and low during the day, and presents that value as a percent of the closing price of the stock. The "average day range" computes an n-day simple moving average of the "day range".

These measures can be used in the same way the "average true range(ATR)" is used -- as a measure of volatility. On StockFetcher, you can look for cases where the day range has reached new high or low levels or is above the current average. Below are some examples:

Fetcher[show stocks where the day range is above 10 percent]

Fetcher[show stocks where the average day range has been increasing for 5 days]

Hopefully the above helps!

Tom
