Did Thoreau Have It Right?

The story of Richard W. Sonnenfeldt, author of Witness to Nuremburg, is one that every person who is concerned about tyranny should read.

Sonnenfeldt fled his German homeland for England at age fifteen when it became clear that Jews were increasingly at risk under the new Nazi regime. After some stranger-than-life twists and turns, he settled in Baltimore, Maryland, at age twenty and became a U.S. citizen.

Sonnenfeldt ultimately ended up in the Army and, at the end of World War II, was one of the soldiers who marched into the Nazi’s Dachau concentration camp. When U.S. troops arrived there, the guard towers were empty, abandoned by Nazi guards who fled when they realized the end was at hand.

Sonnenfeldt could not believe what he saw — unburied corpses piled one on top of another … thousands of emaciated human beings who were barely alive … prisoners beating a German shepherd dog to death in retribution for the way prison-camp dogs had terrorized them. As he stared at the horrors before him, he thought to himself that he was one of the luckiest people in the world to have escaped the fate of the millions who were brutalized.

Following the war, Sonnenfeldt went on to become Chief Interpreter for the OSS group that evolved into the American prosecution team at the 1945 Nuremberg War Crimes Trials. He later wrote about his revealing conversations with Hermann Goering and other principal Nazi war criminals in his autobiography Mehr als ein Leben.

Sonnenfeldt’s story reminded me once again that genocide is woven into the fabric of human history, usually carried out by power-addicted tyrants who are masters at lying and demonizing a targeted group. In the case of Adolf Hitler, he preached that the Jews were the cause of all of Germany’s problems, and his baseless assertion ultimately became accepted by the masses.

Early on, of course, few people took Hitler seriously, and many laughed at his maniacal speeches. But those who believed he was just some clueless kook soon found out differently. Hitler understood exactly what he was doing, as evidenced by his words in Mein Kampf: “The German has no idea how much the people must be misled if the support of the masses is required.”

He clearly understood that in order for dogma to become entrenched, it must find its way into mainstream print. And, in this vein, an essential step in the transformation of an insidious lie into fact is to make certain it appears in children’s textbooks.

Through his character Winston in 1984, George Orwell said: “If all records told the same tale ─ then the lie passed into history and became truth. ‘Who controls the past,’ ran the Party slogan, ‘controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.’”

In other words, given enough repetition and time, a fable like the Holocaust denial could someday pass into the history books as fact. That’s why General Eisenhower ordered pictures taken of the Nazi prison camps, because he was afraid, even at that time, that there would be a movement to deny it ever happened.

But things are different in 21st century America, right? Indeed they are. It’s much easier to spread a preposterous lie in today’s world than it was in the World War II era. Collectivist cheerleaders on the Internet and television have round-the-clock access to the masses, and they understand the power of repetition.

As a result, in today’s lie-a-minute, twenty-four-hour news cycle, separating illusion from fact is not an easy task, even for the most alert and rational among us. It takes a great deal of conscious effort. And when too many people choose not to make that effort, a holocaust — actual or metaphoric — may be just over the horizon.

In Rights of Man, Thomas Paine said:

“Ignorance is of a peculiar nature; once dispelled, it is impossible to re‑establish it. It is not originally a thing of itself, but is only the absence of knowledge; and though man may be kept ignorant, he cannot be made ignorant (my emphasis). … It has never yet been discovered how to make a man unknow his knowledge.”

True, to be sure. But what Paine did not tell us is how to motivate people to become knowledgeable in the first place.

As I watch Obama and his army of lying thugs frantically spewing out the most preposterous lies imaginable, I am reminded of Eric Hoffer’s warning that the louder the drums of deceit, the more vigilant one has to be about learning the facts. And therein lies the problem. A significant portion of the populace is totally uninformed, and it comprises the very people who decide the winner of every election!

Is it just me, or is there something fundamentally wrong with our system of electing public servants? Repeat, servants. The reality is that the winner of virtually every election is the candidate who convinces a majority of voters that he can do more good things for them than his opponent.

Sorry, but that’s not a politician’s job. His only function is to protect our lives and property — not intrude in our lives and take our property in order to gain our neighbors’ votes.

Sometimes I think Thoreau had it exactly right. That cabin in the woods sounds awfully good right now to those of us who just want to be left alone to live our lives as we please.

Why I Do Not Like The Obamas?
Mychal Massie

The other evening on my twitter, a person asked me why I didn't like the Obama's?

Specifically I was asked: "I have to ask, why do you hate the Obama's? It seems personal, not policy related. You even dissed their Christmas family pic."

The truth is I do not like the Obamas, what they represent, their ideology, and I certainly do not like his policies and legislation.
I've made no secret of my contempt for the Obamas. As I responded to the person who asked me the aforementioned question, I don't like them because they are committed to the fundamental change of my/our country into what can only be regarded as a Communist state.

I don't hate them per definition, but I condemn them because they are the worst kind of racialists, they are elitist Leninists with contempt for traditional America. They display disrespect for the sanctity of the office he holds, and for those who are willing to admit same, Michelle Obama's raw contempt for white America is transpicuous.

I don't like them because they comport themselves as emperor and empress. I expect, no I demand, respect for the Office of President and a love of our country and her citizenry from the leader entrusted with the governance of same. President and Mrs. Reagan displayed an unparalleled love for the country and her people. The Reagans made Americans feel good about themselves and about what we could accomplish. Could you envision President Reagan instructing his Justice Department to act like jack-booted thugs?

Presidents are politicians and all politicians are known and pretty much expected to manipulate the truth, if not outright lie, but even using that low standard, the Obama's have taken lies, dishonesty, deceit, mendacity, subterfuge and obfuscation to new depths. They are verbally abusive to the citizenry and they display an animus for civility.

I do not like them, because they both display bigotry overtly, as in the case of Harvard Professor Louis Gates, when he accused the Cambridge Police of acting stupidly, and her codespeak pursuant to now being able to be proud of America. I view that statement and that mindset as an insult to those who died to provide a country where a Kenyan, his illegal alien relatives, and his alleged progeny, could come and not only live freely, but rise to the highest, most powerful, position in the world. Michelle Obama is free to hate and disparage whites, because Americans of every description paid with their blood to ensure her right to do same.
I have a saying, that "the only reason a person hides things, is because they have something to hide." No president in history has spent over a million dollars to keep his records and his past sealed.

And what the two of them have shared has been proved to be lies. He lied about when and how they met, he lied about his mother's death and problems with insurance, Michelle lied to a crowd pursuant to nearly $500,000 bank stocks they inherited from his family. He has lied about his father's military service, about the civil rights movement, ad nausea. He lied to the world about the Supreme Court in a State of the Union address. He berated and publicly insulted a sitting Congressman. He has surrounded himself with the most rabidly, radical, socialist academicians today. He has fought for abortion procedures and opposed rulings that protected women and children, that even Planned Parenthood did not seek to support. He is openly hostile to business and aggressively hostile to Israel. His wife treats being the First Lady, as her personal American Express Black Card (arguably the most prestigious credit card in the world). I condemn them because, as people are suffering, losing their homes, their jobs, their retirements, he and his family are arrogantly showing off their life of entitlement - as he goes about creating and fomenting class warfare.

I don't like them, and I neither apologize nor retreat from my public condemnation of them and of his policies. We should condemn them for the disrespect they show our people, for his willful and unconstitutional actions pursuant to obeying the Constitutional parameters he is bound by, and his willful disregard for Congressional authority.

Dislike for them has nothing to do with the color of their skin, it has everything to do with their behavior, attitudes, and policies. And I have open scorn for their playing the race card.

It is my intention to do all within my ability to ensure their reign is one term. I could go on, but let me conclude with this: I condemn in the strongest possible terms the media for refusing to investigate them, as they did President Bush and President Clinton, and for refusing to label them for what they truly are. There is no scenario known to man, whereby a white president and his wife could ignore laws, flaunt their position, and lord over the people, as these two are permitted out of fear for their color.

As I wrote in a syndicated column titled "Nero In The White House" - "Never in my life, inside or outside of politics, have I witnessed such dishonesty in a political leader. He is the most mendacious political figure I have ever witnessed. Even by the low standards of his presidential predecessors, his narcissistic, contumacious arrogance is unequalled. Using Obama as the bar, Nero would have to be elevated to sainthood ... Many in America wanted to be proud when the first person of color was elected president, but instead, they have been witness to a congenital liar, a woman who has been ashamed of America her entire life, failed policies, intimidation, and a commonality hitherto not witnessed in political leaders. He and his wife view their life at our expense as an entitlement - while America's people go homeless, hungry and unemployed."

IN MY INBOX...

August 18, 2012

Dear President Obama:

I am not retired yet – I am almost 70 - I am afraid to retire – I left a professorship at a University to start up a small business. I busted my butt working 12 hour days, 6 days a week. I didn't take salary for a year and we lived off our savings, my wife Vicky's job, and started the business with my wife’s inheritance and small loans from friends and my mother. It's called taking a risk. I had a good idea, started in my garage, made a prototype, tested it, proved it, marketed it on the internet, sold it, got a patent on it and over the years that one product has miraculously grown into a business with over 2000 products, 7 USA patents, 4 European Union patents and 1 Republic of China (Taiwan) patent and then much to my chagrin I find out from you that I didn't build my company from the ground up - the government did. Government built with our tax dollars the roads and bridges, the internet........ all these infrastructure things were what made my business a success. Not my inspiration, not my perspiration, not my risk taking, but big government. What arrogance you have! You have no clue how businesses are built.

I guess I was just lucky enough to win at life's lottery. Us "rich guys" should be demonized because we didn't really earn our success, we were just lucky. If I had known that back when I started, I would have just sat on my ass, stuck my hand out for a government loan, a little crony capitalism, a little social redistribution of tax dollars, a welfare check and collected my food stamps and waited for life's "lottery" to payoff. It doesn't matter that capitalism has made the USA the most prosperous country in the history of the world. You socialists want to change the rules and the way this country is run and you will kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. But I don't think Americans are ready to run off the cliff of social redistribution of wealth just quite yet.

At the rate you want to tax the money I make and the rate at which you are devaluing the dollar by printing more, I won't have enough money left to retire on. So as long as it is fun I will keep working. You can keep your handouts and use them to buy special interest votes, you can entice illegal aliens to illegally vote for you by giving them work visas, free medical care, welfare, food stamps, college loans, college grants, in state tuition, drivers licenses, a path to citizenship, tax rebates on dependants living in Mexico and you can try to stuff the ballot boxes with your ACORN group’s absentee ballots of the dead and convicted criminals but it won't work this time. You have touched a nerve and activated a sleeping giant of small business owners who are mad and motivated.

We will beat you in November and then accomplish some real positive change in Washington D.C. like passing a budget for the first time in 3.5 years. Didn't you control the House, Senate and Presidency for 2 of those years? What happened then? The next thing I would do is completely revamp the tax code so it was simple and certain. A company might even be able to do some long range planning - might even hire more workers if they knew what the rules were going to be. Strange concept huh?

Today I pay each of my full time workers $400.00 a month for Health and Dental care – that is $4,800.00/year. The way you have structured Obamacare it would be cheaper for me to pay the penalty and pocket the $2,000.00 difference. But let’s face facts we don’t have enough physicians in this country to handle the 30 to 40 million uncovered patients. There is no plan to train more doctors in time to meet the new demand. Rationing is the only way forward. Furthermore my doctor friends tell me that the existing doctors will either retire early or refuse to handle Medicare or Medicaid patients. The paper work is too burdensome, it takes 6 months or more to be paid and the government compensation doesn’t cover the costs. The system you have set up is just unworkable. My doctors are reacting to what they see coming and are not accepting new Medicare patients – thanks a lot.

You presented yourself in 2008 as a leader who would “unite” the country. In 2012 you are unquestionably the most divisive President in history. Your mode of action is to demonize people or groups that disagree with you. You don’t compromise, you attempt to destroy. You have demonized the pharmaceutical companies that are some of my biggest customers. Guess what they did – they reduced their R&D staffs and budgets and raised the price of their drugs. They also have raised the price of drugs because of all the class action law suits brought by trial lawyers. You can’t watch the TV for any period of time with seeing several ads soliciting the viewer to file a “Bad Drug”, “Bad Device” or Mesothelioma claim. We need tort reform in this country to bring down the price of medical care not more punishing class action law suits by trial lawyers.

In May of this year your Census Bureau sent a survey (BRDI-1A approved by the Office of Management and Budget) to my company which commanded me under penalty of law (Title 13 of the United States Code) to produce in 30 days a sensitive and extensive financial report about our company’s R&D expenditures, budget, product applications, staff, compensation, domestic and foreign sales for each product group. Not a voluntary survey but a mandatory disclosure of financial information that required me to waste over 40 hours of my time to complete. Not only was the survey poorly designed but illustrated a profound ignorance of how businesses operate to develop new products. The apparent reason for the survey was to give you an instrument to point at and say that you had stimulated Innovation, Research and Development in the American economy. Mr. President you did not stimulate American Innovation, Research and Development – you wasted my time and all the other busy executives time to advance your political agenda.

You guys on the left have no idea how fired up the conservative base is. We will remember in November, we will donate large amounts of our dwindling dollars and we will turn out in record numbers. It is a must win election for all freedom loving Americans who want to keep the American Dream alive. To be able to start with nothing and through hard work and inspiration build a successful life/career/business and pursue happiness is indeed the American Dream.

By the way Mr. President – thanks for giving me the impetus and opportunity to vent. I feel better now.

Sunny San Diego regards

Patrick H. Cleveland, Ph.D.

THANK YOU AMERICA !

Dear American Taxpayer

For only the second time in my adult life, I am not

ashamed of my country. I want to thank the hard

working American people for paying $242 thousand

dollars for my vacation in Spain.

My daughter Sasha, several long-time family friends,

my personal staff and various guests had a wonderful time.

Sasha also had a great time in Mexico on Spring break

with thirteen of her friends and secret service protection.

Thanks so much.

Honestly, you just haven't lived until you have stayed

in a $2,500.00 per night private 3-story villa at a 5-Star luxury hotel.

Thank you also for the use of Air Force Two
and the 70 Secret Service personnel who tagged

along to be sure we were safe and cared for at all times.

By the way, if you happen to be visiting the Costa del Sol,

I highly recommend the Buenaventura Plaza restaurant

in Marbella, great lobster with rice and oysters!

I'm ashamed to admit the lobsters we ate in Martha's Vineyard were not quite as tasty,
but what can you do if you're not in Europe? You have to just grin and bear it.

Air Force Two (which costs $11,351 per hour to operate
according to Government Accounting Office reports)

only used 47,500 gallons of jet fuel for this trip

and carbon emissions were a mere 1,031 tons of CO2.

These are only rough estimates, but they are close.

That's quite a carbon footprint as my good friend

Al Gore would say, so we must ask the American

citizens to drive smaller, more fuel efficient cars and

drive less too, so we can lessen our combined

carbon footprint.

I know times are hard and millions of you are struggling

to put food on the table and trying to make ends meet.

So I do appreciate your sacrifices and do hope you

find work soon.

I was really exhausted after Barack took our family

on a luxury vacation in Maine a fe w weeks ago.

I just had to get away for a few days.

Cordially,
Michelle (Moochelle) Obama

PP.P.S. Thank you, too, for that vacation trip to

Martha's Vineyard; it was fabulous.

And thanks for that second smaller jet that took our

dog Bo to Martha's Vineyard so we and the children

could have him with us while we were away from the

White House for eleven days. After all, we couldn't

take him on Air Force One because he might pee

on some wires or something.

P.P.P.S Oh, I almost forgot to say thanks also for

our two-week trip to Hawaii at Christmas. That 7,000

square foot house was great!

P.P.P.P.S. don't forget my ski trip to Vail this winter

and now the girls and I are in Africa with my mom.

All this while Barack golf’s and campaigns to

keep my trips coming for the next 4 years !

Love Ya!

Remember, we all have to share the pain of these

economic times equally!

Love to -redistribute- share- the wealth.

SEND THIS TO EVERY AMERICAN NOW .... STAND UP, SPEAK UP.

After Obama was elected, one of my co-workers commented on how proud she was. I asked her what she was so proud about and her response was that there was finally a black president and she had
helped vote him into office. I asked what she like about his politics and what exactly was the draw for her to vote for him. Her response...."because he's black". I was speechless to say the least. After I regained my composure I replied with a question. I asked her.. so you voted for the most powerful man in the world and you did it based on the color of his skin!! What a nauseating thought. Today, three and a half years later, six trillion dollars deeper in debt, and jobless rates at levels that are mind boggling, we still have people that want to support Obama. What about the future of our country. Are we going to put this man back in office based on the color of his skin? What about the real questions based on his performance? Are we better off today than 4 years ago? If you ask yourself this question and answer honestly, you have to say no.

I had this discussion with my wife recently and I explained to her that I couldn't understand how people could vote for Obama for a second term if they really were in touch with reality. Having been shown and watched the failures under Obama what is the draw....unless its just race? I can kind of understand support the first time around ( fresh ideas, bringing the country together, etc, etc.) but not now. Everyone makes mistakes. But to make the same mistake twice even after being shown how it was a mistake the first time, well .....they have names for these types of people!
With so many failures and the country so divided at the hands of this man, who could support him?
My wife answered the question and then a light bulb came on. She said the supporters are people who THINK they are better off. These are the people that wait for the mailman to run every month. All the people that are on the government dole under this president. The people that have been placed on the government payrolls because of failed Obama policies. These folks have no incentive to work. Why work when you can draw a check for not working. The sad part is it is encouraged by this administration. For every person placed on the government dole thats a vote for Obama.

Sadly, this is not how this country was built and it is not a sustainable strategy. The most powerful country in the world is going down the proverbial drain. Our economy can not succeed without people working. This presidents policies are hostile toward the job creators and businesses. Businesses can not and will not create jobs until there is a path of success to travel, not the path put in place under Obama where there is no assurances of anything except government obstruction and intrusion.

For all you folks that still want to vote based on skin color, lets go back a few years to another black man that we all hold in high esteem. Dr. Martin Luther King said he had a dream........ Remember what his dream was? To sum it up he said that it was his dream that one day everyone will not be judged by the color of their skin but of the content of their character. You happy with Obama's character? Obama talks a good game but hasn't delivered anything but pain and hardship. Stop being played people. He's making a fool of you.

So folks, think long and hard about your future, your kid's future and this country's future when you go to the voting booth. Hopefully, we have learned from the last mistake!

Is that all you Mitt Rodney lovers can do ?
Thanks to that guy from Kenya, all Americans ( even those bawl babies who think the right is right ) are a lot better off than when the Republican brain trust put this country in a nose dive. The Republicans are becoming famous for putting their party first before the good of the country ! The country that they only pretend to love so much. The Republicans in congress that just say No, to everything should be flushed totally. It makes me puke to hear millionaires cry and complain about how awful things are. Sort of like professional kid game players on strike for more millions. I’m waiting for Mitt Rodney’s new campaign promise “ Tax Blocker’s for Everyone “.
