.when using the buy zone the actual open doesn't always match the opening candle. Use the actual open correct?

No you need to wait until 9:30am EST to get the true open..the open of the first bar of the day is the open price.
The buy zone is offest from the open price Open + 0.10 to 0.20 for long and Open - 0.10 to 0.20 for short.
Trading at the open is very volatilel, have your orders staged if you can, then you can have your finger on the button at all times.
I have been working on gap down "long" trades Buy At Stop (Open + 0.20) most of the time the price has wizzed past my buy zone by the time I hit the order button, I get an error back saying "current price is above Stop" and I miss the trade.
I have a better tool now that will let me pre stage a stack of orders, I wish I could have a radar screen like TRO (I have to manualy gather the opens and this takes time) I am working on having the orders prestaged automaticlly at the open.

It depends on your platform/charting package.
TradeStation uses a consolidated data stream which means premarket orders can MESS UP the open of the first candle. THAT COST ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS YEARS AGO!
Now they have the DAILYOPEN FIELD for your chart indicators to use, thanks to you know who.
So to answer your question, you need to use the actual open price to calculate the long and short triggers.

Eman93:
YOU NEED A BETTER PLATFORM.
You need DIRECT ACCESS.
TradeStation Matrix is the best tool for this type of trading. Turn confirmations OFF. And you have 1 click entry/exit.
You just click on the price!!
You know there is no love lost between TradeStation and myself, but they still have the best platform for scalping, IMHO.
