4/22/2008 11:26:03 AM Hi!! I'm new here and I've been following this log. I have been looking for this filter for a long time. I just became a member so hopefully I'll be able to study and look at this closer. I've been using your filter, the past week or so and it had been turning up good stocks ready to pop, but the last few days it's seems the pop has already happened the day that I scan. Like you said , I scan after the close of the day, then buy at market the next morning. Is this happpening to you, or I'm wondering If I messed up the scan somehow. Its like it's going the total opposite direction. Do you have any advice or sugguestions? |

5/1/2008 7:33:47 PM Hi Ludo, Thanks for the watch list. I have another question.... Lately this filter has been pulling up stocks that are pretty much at their high. Would you say, according to your scan that the pop is over, or has some pop left? I've been trying to keep track, and it looks like it's going both ways. I'm looking at the charts and some of them look good still, but are at the high, so I'm hesitant. I'm still learning my technicals, so this is a lot for me. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated. BTW.. Yes, I'm still paper trading. Trying to get it together. Figure if I'm going to throw a bunch of money out the window, I better at least be able to explain why. LOL>.... Still loving this filter though. |

5/4/2008 4:15:50 PM Hi Mom, To be honest, I run my filter daily and add the results to the watchlist. I dont keep an eye on any individual stock, so some of them remain in the list even after they went south. Beeing in the watchlist doesn't mean I keep the stock in my portfolio. Recently I adapted a very simple cleanup method: in the watchlist for more than 3 days and still negative: out! Here is the most recent version: (sorry for the layout-or the lack of it-but that's the way it is in this forum format. 5/7/2008 4:47:59 PM Ya know, have you tried using this filter for shorting stocks? Check out the charts for yesterdays picks. 6 out of 8 sank like a rock all day long. I think I'm going to paper trade this the other way. Just to see. How can I back test it the other way? |

5/7/2008 10:50:25 PM If you are looking for a short filter this one works. It's very very simple, you are just scanning for stocks that show a RED candle OUT of the top of the upper bollinger band. This is usually the kiss of death for at least a few days. Use any price you like, doesn't matter BUT you HAVE to wait for the stock to go RED on the next trading day, if not pass on it. Then after a few days ( usually at least 4-6 days +) when they go green you can go long. Just keep them on a watchlist. RED floaters usually kill! |

5/25/2008 5:14:26 PM Hi 13th. I played around with your filter that looks for stocks hitting BB high's. I thought that if I add a BB(20,3.0) three standard deviations, that anything that moves in between BB(20,2.0) and bb(20,3.0) belongs to the 5% of stocks that fit the 3 std. dev's. So they have 95% change to move out of that area quickly.I then added that price is well above MA(30): the higher it is, the deaper it can fall. The day range above 2% gives volatile stocks and the slope op MA(50) below zero makes shure you don't go against the trend. Day offset is 3, to make sure the downtrend is confirmed. So far my 2 (€)cents of wisdom. Please feel free to comment/tweak/improve/get wealthy :) I'd love to include candlestick recognition, but that's for later: I think it is wise to combine candlesticks with western technical indicators. PS: have a look at my tread under: Best regards, Ludo Willems |

5/25/2008 7:38:52 PM ludowillems, I really like your 2 cents of wisdom, your approach with this looks pretty clever. Seeing that I trade mostly under $20 stocks I looked at those and I like what I see. I'll watch ESLR BPG CPNCW CPWM for short positions Tues. All have plenty of short shares available as of now on IB. Thanks for sharing. |

5/30/2008 7:16:12 PM sorry to see this thread die out cause I stand by what I said: RED floaters usually kill! And this filter gives them to you, wait for red, maybe too simple for most but it WORKS! And of late the great thing is for whatever reason they are holding that downtrend pattern even longer than a few days. Here is is with a 7 day offset: I like to express my opinion when I feel I'm right and I say I would trade against ANYBODY with ANY other filter/scan long OR short and whip 'em. I'm not being cocky, it's just the confidence I have in this method. |
