Read an article in the Stocks & Commodities mag. (Bonus issue, 2004) re the above topic. The author's setup conditions are:
1. Recent price action in a tight daily consolidation range.
2. Daily ADX below 20 (preferably below 15).
3. Daily stoch %K above 70 (preferably 80) & rising.
4. Wkly stoch %K above 50 & rising.
5.Stk breakout on above ave. volume (1.5x50)
6. Bullish mkt conditions.
Filter: show stks where fast stochastic fast %K is above 65 but below 75 and weekly fast stochastic fast %K is above 35 but below 45 and ADX(14) is below 25 and average volume(50) is above 100,000 and ATR(14) is below 0.3 for 4 weeks and closing price is between 6 and 16.
I use ATR for spotting congestion periods. How do I enter volume as 1.5 x (50)
I'm new at this; any suggestions about the filter?
Thnx very much------Sid

Very interesting filter, I would not be to concerned about the volume setting on your filter, when you run your SF scan, look for stocks in consolidation with strong volume spikes, them would be your "watch list".

VROT from your scan is exactly what you are looking for.

Thnx TxTrapper for your response.
Emailed author re proper use of the stochastic; he uses the 'slow'(8,3,3)--(but 8,3,3 doesn't show up on the viewed filter); so I changed the filter:
I put in the ATR (not the author) to get some sort of congestion, but I'm not sure it works.
Thx again-----Sid
