I am looking for a good reliable screen that finds stocks with good momentum. I have a couple using linear regression ... and price slope ... but want to see what else everyone has to offer...
We all have some great screens ... but the causes of most trades to fail is the exit strategy. Fear, Greed and the Emotional decisions associated with these traits are what results in potentail gains to be lost....which are eliminated with the "mechanical" stop loss system.
I like the good ole "trailing stop limit" based on previous day close, that others have talked about here at SF and are using... this is nothing new ... but is an awesome exit strategy.... a weakness of my past trades....
The best type of stock to use this "trailing stop" would be a stock that has momentum ... so what do you have ?

Here is the filter that is a good start for finding that momentum.
Back testing does show some losers ... but even these "losers" appear to be just in the bottom of their cycle... and a good prospect.
Fare Well !

This one is nothing fancy but it has very good results.
[RSI(15)is above 80 and RSI(15)is below 95 and price is between $2 and $15 and Average Volume(10)is above 100,000.]
Wanted to screen out the one day wonders so kept the RSI below 95.
Also didn't want to eliminate those stocks that usually trade below 100K shares ADV but now are getting institutional support, so went with a short ADV screen parameter.

EWZUBER ... thanks !
The screen looks good ... exponential slope !
you mentioned the institutional support ... I assume when ADV abnormally high ?... if so is this by keeping ADV above 100,000 ?

Not for day trading but good potential for long time without hard risk.

Some of these low priced stocks normally have low ADV ( less than 100K ADV ) but when institutional support comes in ( or just big money ) the volume rises dramatically. I wanted to make sure that these type stocks did not get rejected by the filter by requiring a long term average volume like 90 days. Thats why I chose ADV(10).

aallee2 I ran your filter and got 48 hits.
The problem is that the prices quoted were for May 19, 2003. Price and volume was the same on the charts as quoted in the hit list. I used Prophet Java charts to run the check.
Is there anything that I did wrong? Most all of the hits looked good for 4 months ago but hind sight does't really cut it for winning.
Really curious

Thanks for the help Rumpled One. It works great. I've been in the SF for 2 days now and I do believe it was the smartest move I've made in trading.
I'm big on tech trading with a smattering of fundamentals. I'm on a quest for short term (couple of days or so)trading in the small cap stocks. $1 > $5 or so. I think this is going to be the place to find a good pattern regonition system.
Thanks again and good trading

aallee2.......
Take a look at EMA @ $1.69 today, Wed, Sept.24, 2003 from this scan or your scan, it's the third pick on both lists, and you can clearly see that MA(77) is useless, and MA(30)below works much better!
Plus this Filter Tune-up picked up two good looking stocks, TMAR and PRM with this minor adjustment. Good Luck!
